Axe-Throwing Games

There are so many games  to play once you've got your head wrapped around throwing an axe! Before you come out, it might be helpful if you familiarize yourself with the rules of some of these games so you don't have to read them when you get here. The same rules will be provided in print at each lane for you to reference.

Beginner Games

Traditional Game Play

  • Break into teams
  • Play through a predetermined amount of rounds
  • Whoever has the most points wins

Tic-Tac-Throw

Teams will take turns throwing, with 3 opportunities to make the axe stick. Whichever numbered ring the axe sticks dictates where you are allowed to place your "x" or "o". If those spots are already taken, then the play moves on to the next team. First one to get 3 in a row wins.

Cricket... But with Axes

  • The goal is to hit each ring of the target 3 times (3 bullseyes, 3 fours, 3 threes, 3 twos, 3 ones, 1 clutch.
  • First one to complete all 16 sticks, wins.

Intermediate Games

Cornhole... But with Axes

  • Game is played to 21
  • After one person from each team has thrown, the lower score is subtracted from the higher score (Player 1 gets 6, Player 2 gets 1; Player one is awarded 5 points).

Humans vs. Zombies

  • Designate a Human team and a Zombie team
  • Humans generate points in the positive and Zombies the negative.
  • The two teams play tug-of-war trying to reach 15 or -15 respectively.

Killers

Players start by picking their number assignment. It must correspond to a number on the target (B, 4, 3, 2, or 1)

Each player starts with 3 lives. Players start by aiming for their own number assignments. Once they have hit their own number twice they become a "killer." When a "killer" hits the number of a player on the opposing team, that player loses a life. The game ends when one team eliminates all players on the opposing team.

Advanced Games

Around the World

Players alternate turns and proceed left to right. 1, 2, 3, 4, B, 4, 3, 2, 1. Each player throws until they miss their targeted space. Once they do not stick the axe or does not stick it in the appropriate zone, it is the next players turn.

Players get two chances to stick the axe in the appropriate zone. Players can "chance" their progress with a third throw on any turn. If the axe does not stick or player misses on the third throw, all progress is lost and the player starts over.

Landmines

  • Players start at 0 and play to 50.
  • Landmines are chosen in intervals of ten (this could be 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 or even 3, 13, 23, 33, 43)
  • Landing on a landmine sets the player back by 10 points. from the number they started at (if the player has 27 points and hits a landmine, they fall to 17).
  • Landmines are common to both players. Once a landmine is hit, it is safe to hit for the rest of the game (like real landmines, they can only blow up once).
